In Helsinki, Finland, a company by the name of Exote is manufacturing a new type of armor that is resistant to armor-piercing bullets. This armor is made up of a metal-ceramic ductile structure, making it lightweight, easy to install, and adjustable to different shapes and thicknesses.

The technology is “industrially unique” according to a defense markets analyst, who went on to note that “this technique is not used by any other companies in the armor sector”. The key compound, a fusion of ceramic and metal, is able to withstand multiple bullet hits from the new generation of high velocity armor-piercing bullets with tungsten carbide cores, whereas other armor is usually too brittle to do so.

Even after stopping one of the latest AP bullets, the rest of the plate remains protective. Exote is the only lightweight armor with the capability to do this.

Because it is harder than any modern bullet, when struck, Exote-armor breaks the penetrating Armor Piercing bullet to dust, eliminating the hit and spreading the impact over a large area, effectively absorbing the energy of the bullet. This allows the armor to be lighter than other modern armor because even if penetration of the armor occurs, no bullet or penetrating object remains to injure the wearer. The decreased weight allows for greater mobility for personnel and vehicles.

Exote-armor has an exceptionally high melting point, it is incombustible, it does not rust, it is non-toxic, and it does not oxidize.
